  • What are some factors that could cause an inaccurate measurement?

    keyboard_arrow_down

    Several, including:

    • Poor cuff position
    • Cuff is too loose or tight
    • Cuff applied over clothing
    • Taking a measurement within an hour after patient eats or drinks

  • Can you explain how the Welch Allyn Connex Spot Monitor Battery Status "time indicator" works or what that number signifies?

    keyboard_arrow_down

The battery status indicator displays the state of the battery as represented by icons in the upper-right corner of the monitor display. The battery state can be one of the following:

    • The monitor is connected to a power source and the battery is charging or is fully charged. The estimated charge rate is displayed as a percentage of capacity.
    • The monitor is not connected to a power source and is running on battery power. The estimated charge time remaining, representing all available batteries in the monitor and stand, is shown by a series of 1 - 4 bars and hours/minutes.
    • The monitor is connected to a power source, but the battery does not maintain a charge (or has been removed). Bars description: >> 4 Running on battery, battery charge is high; 76% - 100%; display time remaining (HH:MM) >> 3 Running on battery, battery charge is medium; 51% - 75%; display time remaining (HH:MM) >> 2 Running on battery, battery charge is low; 26% - 50%; display time remaining (HH:MM) >> 1 Running on battery, battery charge is very low; 11% - 25%; display time remaining (HH:MM) When the battery is not being recharged and power becomes low, an amber low-priority alarm appears in the status area.
  • How do I access the Advanced settings on my Welch Allyn Connex Spot Monitor?

    keyboard_arrow_down

    • Patient is in cardiac arrest or shock
    • Excessive patient movement
    • Bright light
    • Sensor is too tight
    • Moisture in the sensor
    • Placement of a sensor on an extremity with a blood pressure cuff, arterial catheter, or intravascular line
    • Incorrect sensor application or use
    • Poor patient perfusion
    • Arterial occlusion proximal to the sensor
    • Venous pulsations
    • Intravascular dyes such as indocyanine green or methylene blue
    • Significant levels of dysfunctional hemoglobins (e.g., carboxyhemoglobin or methemoglobin)
    • Fingernail polish (if finger sensor is used)
    • Patient has hypotension, severe vasoconstriction, severe anemia, or hypothermia
    • Exposure to excessive illumination, such as surgical lamps (especially ones with a xenon light source), bilirubin lamps, fluorescent lights, infrared heating lamps, or direct sunlight. Exposure to excessive illumination can be corrected by covering the sensor with a dark or opaque material.
